Iter Vitis is a Cultural European itinerary, noted by the European Council in may 2009. Iter Vitis proposes itself as an instrument to foster the safeguard of the European vineyard landscape, regarded as an unmaterial good of great value. The main objectives of the itinerary are: to emphasize the wine production as a symbol of European identity capable of contributing to construction of European citizenship and promoting sustainable tourism forms, with particular regard to wine tourism as a mean of promotion and valuing of the vineyard landscape.

Moreover, the two parts commit themselves to defend the vineyard biodiversity, the indigenous and historic vineyards, the good practices to make the cultivation of the grape always more sustainable, as well as to enforce the interdisciplinary research to promote the acquisition of new awarenesses and to spread them. Finally, the two parts commit themselves to promote a sustainable and aware tourism, to compare the different experiences and spread information stimulating the birth of initiatives to the safeguard of the vineyard patrimony.
